Black Unity Week
Austin Justice Coalition is proud to provide an annual Black Empowerment week. As a part of Black History Month, Black Empowerment Week serves as a means to celebrate our history, embrace our culture, encourage one another for the future while centering in on community awareness and the current climate here in Austin, Texas.
Multiple Black organizations have partner up with us for the week to put emphasis on this community initiative. This past year's event included:
Know Your Rights:
Come have a discussion with us as we explain some of your rights that you have as a citizen of the United States of America and how to handle different situations according to guidelines of the legal process.
Loving Yourself: Black Health Matters:
Come join us for a health forum that will begin the much needed discussion about some of the taboo health related issues that affect us heavily in our community and specifically here in Austin.
Community Service Project:
Community Service with many other Black organizations.
Storytellers - The Story of Black Austin: Past, Present, and Beyond:
We highlight the African-American experience in Austin over the years, past to present, through the form of traditional storytelling by some of our very own vanguards. This event aims to serve as bridge between older and younger generations as well as native and new Austinites with hopes of strengthening our community through highlighting the rich culture and heritage of the Black Austin community.
Austin Black Wall Street - Black Business Expo
An event that brings black businesses, entrepreneurs, and professionals from a variety of fields and careers together for an evening of networking, one on one discussions and presentations of products or services. This event is aimed to created an increased knowledge of the many black businesses that we have in our city.
